Building Power and Influence in the Metro-D.C. Area

[foundry_text_image layout=”shadow-left” image=”21″]

While the number of African immigrants in the U.S. is large and rapidly growing, our community does not have the strong influence with political and corporate leaders that we should. We must also ensure that our communities are safe and can make their voices heard, especially at this time of rising xenophobia.

We want to do something about this, and believe that now is the time and Metro-DC—the number one gathering place for African immigrants across the United States. The Metro-DC African Immigrant Caucus includes representatives from many African countries, giving us a unique opportunity to lead the way for African immigrants across the country.

Common Issues Require Common Effort

Other ethnic groups have a seat at the table and are getting their voices heard. Africans must do the same and do it ourselves. As Frederick Douglass remarked, “Power concedes nothing without a demand” and politicians take notice when a large voting-block works together to impact them at the community and the ballot box.
